Ground Source Heat Pump

This is our current backyard. It seems that our yard was probably a riverbed at some time, so there are many rocks just a couple of feet below the soil. Our plans in getting a ground source heat pump have been temporarily waylayed as we transition from the original plan of large trenches in about a third of our backyard, to two wells, both with the same basic idea. Basically what it does is extract heat from water which runs through pipes deep in the ground, where the temperature remains constant, and then recirculates the water to repeat the process. They can be up to 70% more efficient that standard heating systems and up to 30% more efficient than standard cooling systems. Plus, almost all our hot water will be free in the summer. I sure hope it is worth it. --Tammy
